Saskatchewan's problem gambling helpline

The Saskatchewan Problem Gambling Helpline answers 24 hours a day, with trained counsellors on the line.

The helpline

For the Saskatchewan Problem Gambling Helpline, the number to call is 1-800-306-6789. A call costs nothing and stays confidential, and the line answers round the clock. Trained counsellors answer, so the person on the other end knows the subject. There is no need to have a plan or the right words before dialling.

Mobile Crisis Services, Inc. runs the helpline. Funding comes from SLGA and LGS, and the Ministry of Health gives program direction.

Saskatchewan residents can also get free problem-gambling counselling through the Saskatchewan Health Authority. No doctor's referral is needed. A person can ask for that counselling directly, without going through a family doctor first.

Self-exclusion

Game Break is a voluntary, confidential self-exclusion run by SaskGaming. Every casino in the province falls under it, and so does PlayNow.com, for 6 months at the shortest and 5 years at the longest. After it takes effect, neither shortening nor removal is possible. Enrolment happens in person at a casino's Customer Service or Security desk, or through an appointment booked with GameSense staff at 306-787-2122.

At SIGA Central Office in Saskatoon, by appointment, or at any SIGA casino, a person can ask for SIGA Voluntary Self-Exclusion. Its length is likewise 6 months to 5 years, and during it all nine Saskatchewan casinos are closed to that person. No one can enrol another person in either self-exclusion program.

The private online casino that the home page's Ad links lead to falls outside both programs. That site is not PlayNow, and it has no connection with SIGA, SaskGaming, LGS, SLGA or any casino in this guide.

More places to call

Gamblers Anonymous Saskatchewan keeps a 24-hour hotline at 1-855-781-9522. Both Casino Regina and Casino Moose Jaw have a GameSense Info Centre, and their GameSense staff answer at 306-787-2122. The GameSense line is the same number used to book a Game Break appointment.

Calls about First Nations treatment go to the Holistic Wellness Centre (Prince Albert Grand Council): 1-866-765-5305 toll free, or 306-953-7285. Fort Qu'Appelle is home to the File Hills Qu'Appelle White Raven Healing Centre. Call it toll free at 1-866-748-8922 or at 306-332-2608.
